Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to determine lift and load requirements, work within areas of restricted movement or conditions of restricted visibility, identify loads that need special care, and operate forklifts in special traffic conditions. This unit applies to advanced forklift and load shifting skills above those required for general operation and is intended to cover load shifting applications where special-purpose equipment/accessories requiring advanced operational skills are required. Depending on the equipment being used a high risk work licence may be required and users should check with the relevant authorities.Band: AUnit Weight: 2

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

This field allows for different work environments and conditions that may affect performance. Essential operating conditions that may be present (depending on the work situation, needs of the candidate, accessibility of the item, and local industry and regional contexts) are included.

Safe working load includes the following:

as defined in the manufacturers' specifications for lifting plant or gear

Loads requiring special care include one (1) or more of the following:

non-standard load configuration

fragile loads

dangerous (volatile, explosive and sensitive)

raising and lowering personnel on approved work platforms (forklift only)

Advanced operational skills include one (1) or more of the following:

heavy loads

out-of-balance loads

awkward and irregular shaped loads

traversing over rough, broken or uneven surfaces

high lift situations

extremes of climate

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
